Eli's muscle mass has increased after receiving a blood transfusion from his grandfather, but for the most part Eli has the normal build of a 16-year-old in good physical shape. When he isn't in costume his clothing is plain and casual. T-shirt and jeans, a windbreaker or a jersey. He keeps his head shaved bald out of personal preference and can often be seen scowling, something that's earned more than one joke.
Personality:
A young teenager seeking to live up to the ideals of his role models and heroes, Eli is understandably frustrated when he fails to meet that standard and puts a great deal of pressure on himself to always be that hero, and do whatever's necessary to save the day. That idea of what makes a hero is very specific to Eli and often means that he doesn't brook argument as well as he should. The leader of the Young Avengers after Iron Lad, he keeps the welfare of his teammates in mind but that doesn't necessarily mean that he puts up with dissenting opinions.
Of course, what this really means is that Eli has a chip on his shoulder. He's aware, and has been for a long time, that his grandfather Isaiah was the black Captain America. Constantly feeling that he has something to live up to, constantly feeling that he should be the kind of soldier that his grandfather was, Eli never thinks twice about getting into a fight or trying to prove his merit by going it alone - feeling that he either is capable of performing amazing feats all by himself, or that he should be. It rarely enters his mind to measure the risks before taking a particular course of action, and he definitely doesn't listen to those in positions of authority before he takes those risks.
Beneath it all Eli wants to honor his friends, his grandfather and the tradition of the Avengers - all of the resentments that he's carried for so long only feed his commitment to do the right thing and prove that he's worthy of bearing Captain America's shield, worthy of leading the Young Avengers and of the respect that he earned from Captain America before his death. Good natured or not, Eli comes off as very severe in the presence of others and isn't known for having a sense of humor. The unfortunate side effect of wanting to do the right thing all the time is breaking the rules to make it happen, something Eli has done more than once and will continue to do as long as it suits him.

The blood transfusion that Eli received from his grandfather gave him true Super Soldier abilities in the vein of Captain America. His physical attributes and his five senses are all at the peak of human possibility. This gives him speed, strength, stamina and endurance far above the limits of an average person. Eli heals at a faster rate than normal human beings in addition to being resistant but not immune to many different types of poison and illness.

Special Skills/Abilities:
Eli carries the original shield of Captain America, a triangular shield with the stars and stripes painted on the front, which was given to him by Kate Bishop. He has demonstrated the ability to use it as both an offensive weapon and defensive tool - although the shield is not made of vibranium, it has been shown to withstand many different types of attacks and is quite resilient. He also carries a set of white metal throwing stars shaped as the stars on the shield and is very skilled in their use.

Eli is one of several Young Avengers who has not yet complied with the Superhuman Registration Act, though he was in attendance at Captain America's funeral and still dons his costume to do battle on the streets of New York - a position that, while risky, is shared and even encouraged by his teammates Hawkeye and Wiccan. Eli's desire to continue on while respecting the truth that Captain America was fighting for even led him to meet with Bucky, before Captain America's former sidekick took up the mantle himself.
